Who ranks for “fly fishing techniques”

Fly fishing relies on using a weighted plastic line to cast a nearly weightless artificial fly that mimics natural insects.

Essential Casting Techniques

Overhead Cast: Accelerate the Basic Fly Casting rod smoothly from a low position to behind your shoulder, pause for the line to straighten, and drive the rod forward. Roll Cast: Flick the rod tip upward while letting the line hang beside you, then shoot the line forward in tight spaces where you lack room for a backcast. Limit False Casting: Reduce extra casts in the air; aim for one backcast and one forward cast to keep your fly in the water longer and avoid spooking fish.

Presentation and Water Tactics

Dead Drift: Allow your fly to drift naturally with the current without pulling or adding unnatural drag. Approach Close to Far: Start fishing areas close to you and move outward so falling fly lines do not disturb distant targets. Upstream Positioning: Stand downstream of a pool and cast upward, keeping yourself out of the fish's line of sight.
