Who ranks for “markdown note-taking app”

Obsidian is a top choice for a local-first Markdown notes app.

Popular Markdown Note Apps

Obsidian: Best for power users who want a customizable knowledge base, graph views, and community plugins. It stores notes locally as plain text files. Bear: Best for Apple users looking for a clean, minimal interface with powerful nested tagging and beautiful themes. iA Writer: Best for distraction-free, focused writing and long-form composition on Mac, iOS, and Windows. Key Features to Consider

Storage: Local-first apps store files directly on your hard drive as .md files, giving you full data ownership. Other apps use proprietary databases for faster cloud syncing. Syncing: Some apps offer free automatic syncing (like iCloud in Bear), while others require paid upgrades or manual setup via third-party tools like Git or local sync plugins. Live Preview: Look for editors that render Markdown inline as you type rather than splitting the screen into edit and preview panes.
