Who ranks for “military car shipping”

You can track and manage government-sponsored vehicle shipments using the PCSmyPOV Portal.

How Military Car Shipping Works

Government-Paid Moves: The U.S. military typically covers the cost to ship one Privately Owned Vehicle (POV) during a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move. Personally Procured Move (PPM): You can hire a private auto transport company yourself if you need to ship extra family vehicles or prefer a private carrier. Vehicle Processing Centers (VPCs): For overseas OCONUS moves, you must drop off and pick up your vehicle at an appointment-only VPC.

Top Private Car Shipping Companies

Sherpa Auto Transport: Offers a fixed $100 military discount and a price-lock guarantee. SGT Auto Transport: Provides fast quotes, express pickup windows, and flexible base-adjacent delivery. Nexus Auto Transport : Features a $100 military discount and handles diverse vehicle types like motorcycles and RVs. Montway Auto Transport : Permits up to 100 lbs of personal items inside the trunk during transport.

Key Requirements & Preparation

Clear Recalls: You must provide official proof that all manufacturer safety recalls are resolved before shipping overseas. EV/PHEV Rules: Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles shipped to Hawaii require a 30% to 50% battery charge and face strict damage or salvage bans. Clean Out Items: Private commercial carriers generally limit personal items left in the car to 100 lbs or less.
