SEND## Tell Brazil: Lead the World Beyond Fossil Fuels

As the world gathers in Belém for COP30, Brazil stands at a crossroads.

President Lula and COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago have a historic opportunity to show real leadership, by steering the world away from fossil fuels and toward a just, renewable future.

But Brazil is doing two opposite things. It’s promising to protect the Amazon while giving companies new licenses to drill for oil there. This undermines trust and threatens the communities that have protected these lands for generations.

**Brazil’s leaders must choose. Will they lead the world towards a fair transition away from coal, oil, and gas or fall behind as laggards?**

This summit has to deliver real progress, and Brazil’s actions will set the tone.

**Add your name to urge Brazil’s leaders to match their words with action.** Stop fossil fuel expansion, triple renewables fairly, and ensure Indigenous and traditional peoples lead the way.

Send a letter:

Your message (editable) To Brazil President Lula, COP30 President Corrêa do Lago, and Environment Minister Silva: As COP30 takes place in the heart of the Amazon, the world is looking to Brazil for leadership that matches the urgency of the climate crisis. Brazil has already pledged to protect the Amazon, yet allowed new oil blocks within it.\[1\] This contradiction has raised serious doubts about Brazil’s climate leadership. Now, you have a chance to close the ambition gap\[2\] and prove that Brazil will lead the world towards a real transition away from fossil fuels. COP30 must deliver tangible progress on this transition. That means halting new oil and gas expansion everywhere, protecting Indigenous rights, and delivering a roadmap for a just, renewable energy future that leaves no one behind. We urge you, President Lula and President Corrêa do Lago, to stand firmly with Minister Marina Silva – supporting her leadership and commitment to environmental protection, and ensuring her vision for a people-centred, just transition defines COP30.\[3\] The science is clear: there is no room for new fossil fuels if we are to avoid climate collapse. Brazil’s renewable energy potential can make it a true global leader – not just in words, but in action. Please use this historic COP to ensure the Amazon COP is remembered for courage, not compromise.
