We allege that the suppliers fixed the prices of essential household vegetables, including broccoli, cauliflower, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, Brussels sprouts, and zucchini. ### Federal Court orders Optus to pay $100m penalty for unconscionable conduct The Federal Court has ordered Optus to pay $100 million in penalties for unconscionable conduct when selling mobile phones and contracts to from hundreds of Australians. Many of the consumers were vulnerable and were pursued for debts on products they did not want or need. ### Australian Competition Summit tickets are now on sale Join us at the Australian Competition Summit on Thursday 30 October. Held in Melbourne, the summit is bringing together leaders from international competition authorities, economists and legal experts. We're exploring emerging issues impacting competition law and economics around the world. Spaces are limited. Register now to secure your tickets. ### The Good Guys to pay $13.5m penalty The Federal Court has ordered The Good Guys to pay $13.5 million in penalties for misleading conduct related to several of its store credit promotions. The Good Guys admitted that its advertisements failed to tell consumers about key conditions for these promotional offers. ### Domestic airline seating capacity continues to lag behind passenger demand Our latest domestic airline competition report found the number of passengers flying domestically each month has returned to pre-pandemic levels. However, growth in the total number of seats provided by domestic airlines has not kept pace with traveller demand. View all news > “We prioritise the issues impacting the Australian economy, consumers and businesses in Australia.” > > ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb ## Our priorities ### Mergers and acquisitions A new mandatory merger control regime for notifying and assessing acquisitions comes into effect from 1 January 2026. A voluntary period started on 1 July 2025. The new regime is designed to strengthen Australia’s merger control and provide more certainty and transparency. ### Card surcharges Businesses can charge a surcharge for paying by card, but the surcharge must not be more than what it costs the business to process that payment type. Business must make sure their customers know about any card payment surcharges upfront. ### Greenwashing and environmental claims Consumers are now, more than ever, making purchasing decisions on environmental grounds. We'll be investigating a number of businesses for making potentially false or misleading environmental claims. ## Work on some of the biggest issues facing consumers and businesses. Join our team of smart and dedicated people from all walks of life to collaborate on meaningful matters and make a significant and lasting impact for all of Australia. Why work here?
