The resolutions are typically adopted unanimously, without a vote. ## U.S. Disengages from UN Human Rights System WASHINGTON, D.C. November 14 (C-Fam) The United States was a no-show for its scheduled appearance in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) where countries receive recommendations on their human rights records from other member states, leading to speculation that the U.S. government will entirely disengage from the UN human rights system. ## UN Expert Wants Boys to Shower With Girls? UNITED NATIONS, November 7 (C-Fam) The UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity wants schools to reject binary gender norms, provide gender-affirming services, and normalize diverse sexual orientations in classrooms and libraries. Graeme Reid claims such measures are needed to protect LGBT students from discrimination and bullying. Graeme Reid, UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity ## Clash Over Censorship at UN UNITED NATIONS, November 6 (C-Fam) The U.S. and European governments are clashing over censorship in a UN resolution. research ## Who cares? How the UN’s approach to the work of caring undermines the family and promotes a micromanagerial state Rebecca Oas, Ph.D. Care for others, especially children, the elderly, the disabled, and those who are sick or injured, is an essential part of familial and societal life. All persons, at various points in their lives, experience dependency, and much of the work of care takes place in an informal, unpaid context. The fact that the majority of such work is done by women is seen by feminists, including those who work in the context of the United Nations, as inherently problematic. They call for the redistribution of care within the home and for more women to work in the formal economy as a way to achieve gender equality. However, the solutions they present are in many ways worse than the “problem” they seek to solve. This Definitions examines the treatment of care within the UN system and considers whether the policy prescriptions it promotes would actually improve the status of women in society and in the family. Statement and Submissions ## Written submission of C-Fam, Inc. for the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the Appraisal of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Human Trafficking Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam) Trafficking in persons is a serious problem because it attacks the intrinsic dignity of persons and violates their fundamental rights to life, liberty, and the ability to determine and pursue their own goals. Combating human trafficking requires, first and foremost, the recognition that human persons are not commodities to be bought and sold, whether for sex, for labor, or for any other purpose, including the desire to have a child. ## Not Playing at All —Trump’s New UN Jiu-jitsu. UNITED NATIONS, October 31 (C-Fam) The Trump administration will not play games during the current meeting of the UN General Assembly. Rather than spend countless hours negotiating dozens of controversial resolutions with little to show for it, the Administration will not negotiate at all and will simply vote against any resolution that is not aligned with the President’s agenda. Friday Fax Stefano Gennarini, J.D. October 30, 2025 ## Abortion Debate Resurfaces at EU. BRUSSELS, October 31 (C-Fam) European abortion advocates have gathered more than one million signatures asking the European Union to pay for travel abortions. The idea is that the EU would pay for a Polish woman, for instance, to travel to France for a late-term abortion. Friday Fax Iulia-Elena Cazan October 30, 2025 ## Trump Sends Message to Pro-Life Governments. WASHINGTON, D.C., October 24 (C-Fam) President Trump said he was “proud” to rejoin the Geneva Consensus Declaration, a pro-life international declaration launched during the first Trump administration that Joe Biden reneged on his first day in office. Friday Fax Stefano Gennarini, J.D. October 24, 2025 ## Diplomats Call UN Back to Founding Principles. UNITED NATIONS, October 24 (C-Fam) At a UN conference celebrating the 80th anniversary of the UN, diplomats and experts called on the UN to get back to basics, including respect for national sovereignty, human dignity, and dialogue based on mutual respect.
