In the 70s-90s we often revolved around topics like cinema, reading, the gatherings at Bindu Chowk, and the meetings held in Khasbag. Since we were students of Commerce and Law, our letters often carried the flavor of that world — written in English at times, sometimes even in verse, and occasionally sprinkled with the language of business and law. We would go there daily, even on Sundays, just as naturally as we went to school. ### Kinara – A Film worth Watching

Kinara was a film created by a brilliant director, featuring talented actors and a melodious music composer — truly a film that must be seen. All the songs in it were pleasant to hear and rich in meaning, but after Lata Didi’s (Lata Mangeshkar’s) passing, the song most often played was “Naam Gum Jayega,” an intense expression of emotion. Released in 1977, Kinara was directed by Gulzar, starring Hema Malini, Dharmendra, and Jeetendra, with music composed by R. D. Burman. The characters were — Hema Malini as Vasundhara, Dharmendra as Achyut, and Jeetendra as Indrajit. Vasundhara is a classical dancer. She is in love with the poet Achyut, but after his accidental death, she becomes deeply traumatized and remains trapped in his memories, keeping an emotional distance from Indrajit. Indrajit, on the other hand, is sensitive and understanding — but the climax reveals that he himself was responsible for the accident. ### कोल्हापुरची जुनी टॉकीज आणि सिनेमाचं वेड

हिंदी-मराठी सिनेमाचा १९७० ते १९९० हा काळ वेगळाच होता. कोल्हापुरातील लक्ष्मीपुरी परिसरात पद्मा, शाहू, राजाराम, रॉयल, प्रभात ही पाच थिएटर्स होती. व्हिनस, लिबर्टी आणि उषा ही तीन व्हिनस कॉर्नरला, बसंत आणि बहार कलेक्टर ऑफिसजवळ, तर उमा आणि पार्वती एका सरळ रस्त्यावर होती. महाद्वार रोडवर सरस्वती, लक्ष्मी आणि कावळा नाक्याकडे संगम अशी थिएटर्स सर्व भागात पसरलेली होती. त्या काळी एकूण १५ टॉकीज होत्या आणि सर्व ठिकाणी सिनेमासक्त प्रेक्षकांमुळे अफाट गर्दी असायची. आता महिनाभरही एक सिनेमा चालत नाही, पण तेव्हा ‘गोल्डन ज्युबिली’चा बोर्ड सर्रास लागायचा.  सकाळी ११ ते रात्री १ या वेळेत या भागात प्रचंड वर्दळ असायची. अभिनेते-अभिनेत्रींचे फॅन्स अगदी अंधभक्त — "हा सिनेमा सात वेळा पाहिला!" असं सांगणारे असायचे. ‘फर्स्ट डे फर्स्ट शो’ पाहणारे खरे रसिक मानले जायचे. ब्लॅक मार्केटमध्ये मिळेल त्या दरात तिकीट घेऊन सिनेमा पाहणारेही काही कमी नव्हते. ब्लॅकचा एक वेगळाच फंडा होता — काही चौपट दर देणारे असत, तर काही सिनेमा सुरू होईपर्यंत थांबून निम्म्या दरात तिकीट घेत. जर इच्छित सिनेमाचं तिकीट मिळालं नाही, तरी जवळच दु...
