# Building a Sustainable Tomorrow Together

## Welcome to the Green Skills Advisory Panel (GSAP)!

GSAP is a member-led committee of over 500 building services, housing, and construction businesses, supported by local authorities, charities and training providers across the United Kingdom. The group exists to improve and develop sustainable training and education opportunities for the housing and construction industry with the aim to close the skills gap throughout the UK.

This website is dedicated to providing you with valuable information, insights, courses, and resources on green construction, from its principles and benefits to the latest trends, technologies and educational opportunities.

We hope this site serves as a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the world of green skills, including: training, education, jobs and careers to better understand and embrace the green construction revolution.

With the skills gap in green construction now at critical stage, the key to the solution is partnership and collaboration. No one entity can solve the skills crisis in isolation, it requires a combined and sustained effort with people, businesses and educators who each bring something to the partnership. We at Taylor Lewis are delighted to be involved in this collaboration which is a perfect example of how the skills gap in green construction is addressed.

Jules Phillips

Business Development Director

Devon County Council identifies tackling climate change as one of our key strategic priorities, with green skills and environmental technologies key to enable sustainable economic growth. GSAP provides a powerful network to identify, improve, develop, and disseminate green skills training and opportunities for those entering, upskilling, or reskilling in the construction and green sectors across Devon.

Charlotte Collyer

Digital and Sector Skills Manager

“The success of GSAP has been phenomenal, from starting off as a small group of businesses, educational facilities, and local authority, to a global initiative.

GSAP has positively impacted our business by facilitating collaboration with other businesses and organisations in our sector, fostering a collective effort to support both the local and wider economy and community. This collaboration equips us with the skills necessary to reduce our carbon footprints and move towards a greener future. Ensuring our current and future workforce possesses the right skills and tools is crucial for steering our industry in the right direction.

Additionally, having our own skills academy enhances the future of our workforce by emphasising the importance of achieving net zero and the benefits of retrofitting for energy efficiency.”

Kerry Lane

EX2 Electrical

“Through collaboration and working with industry leading experts and partners, we are well placed to drive the ambitions of the local authorities and the community. Our ambition is that by providing bespoke qualifications, niche skills can be developed to meet the burgeoning demand.”

John Laramy, CBE

Principal and CEO at Exeter College

“The development of Green Skills through short qualifications, upskilling and Apprenticeships is key to ensuring the future growth of the sector. Establishing a curriculum that is adaptable, flexible, and responsive to the needs of businesses is critical to meet net zero targets. Through GSAP, we are not only upskilling the current workforce but also educating the next and future generations of the construction industry.”

Mike Blakely

Executive Director of Apprenticeships and Future Skills

“The GSAP is a fantastic collaborative organisation that has allowed EWI Pro to bring together the EWI industry. The connections we’ve made have informed our competency-based EWI courses, making them fit for purpose of upgrading the skills of our Approved Installers. Consequently, EWI Pro’s Training Academy courses allow our installers to install to PAS2035 standards. Through our partnership with the GSAP, we’ve expanded our reach and connections with education establishments, installers, social housing providers, and bodies in the sustainability sector. We’re proud to contribute to the industry’s growth, highlighted by our relationship with the GCAP and the newly constructed Retrofit Skills Centre at Exeter College.”

Nick Miles
