### SEO Opportunity Analysis

Trying to figure out if you should invest in SEO for your business, or where to go next with your SEO strategy?

Then book an SEO Opportunity Analysis. I help companies, primarily B2B SaaS, get clarity on where to go next with SEO and content.

## A bit more about me

I am an agency coach, the founder of EditorNinja, a content editing service that edited 3,000,000+ words in its first 18 months and over 14,000,000 lifetime. I also founded Credo, a service connecting businesses with the right marketing provider to help them grow. Credo's connected 7,5000+ businesses, including some of the world's largest brands and sites, with agencies since late 2015. I exited that business in September 2022.

I'm an international speaker, well-known blogger, and have bylines across Entrepreneur, The Next Web, and more. My work has also been featured on major sites like CNBC and Today.com, and I've also been featured by the American Writing and Artists Institute (AWAI) and many industry podcasts and websites.

I was formerly the lead growth manager at Trulia Rentals, head of marketing at HotPads, and head of and senior consultant at Distilled NYC. I have also run Destinee Media in Switzerland and worked in-house in online education.

In my personal life, I am married to Courtney, who is Head of Design at Remind.com. We have a daughter named Tatum, a son named Leon, and own a large black labrador named Butterbean. On the weekends, we can often be found cycling, skiing, hiking, camping, and otherwise exploring Colorado, where we call home.

## Testimonials

##### Jeff Fernandez

Former CEO and CoFounder, Grovo

We worked with John for two years here at Grovo. He communicates very well, develops scalable strategy, and helps prioritize a tactical roadmap to make it happen. John's an expert in the space, but can get his hands dirty too.

John's also a great guy. He's personable, friendly, and always on.

I can't recommend John enough.

##### Brian Casel

CEO/Founder, AudienceOps & Productize

John helped me identify key low hanging fruit to improve my SEO ranking and optimize my content. He helped me map out concrete next steps and a game plan for my team and I to execute on. John knows his stuff and knows what truly matters when it comes to organic traffic and optimization!

##### Paul Ghio

Former VP Product, Creative Market

My team and I worked with John for 18 months after we were introduced by a mutual colleague whose deep SEO knowledge I respect. I’ve worked with a handful of talented (and some not so talented) consultants in this space since 2011, and after speaking with a half-dozen more when we were looking to onboard someone new to tackle some hairy projects, I can confidently say John is the best I’ve come across.

##### David Sottimano

VP Strategy, Define Media Group

I had the pleasure of working with John on numerous projects, his ability is only outmatched by his determination to get the job done, right. Other than day to day responsibilities as a consultant for major brands, he managed to help grow a brand new Distilled office (NYC) into a flourishing business. He's an asset to any company he joins.

##### Alex Roitman

Senior SEO Analyst, 2U

I worked with John as he consulted our e-commerce digital marketing team for about two years. While a technical SEO wizard, John really shined in his creativity and passion for content. His experience and insight was a catalyst for our team to dream up bigger and better content, a difficult task in our B2B market. John’s best quality is his talent to ask the right questions at the right times for the benefit of our team. He’s a true asset to have in any strategy or brainstorming meeting.

##### Richard Martin

Melioguide.com

John Doherty is an SEO expert. He quickly got to the point and showed me clearly what I had to do to improve my site. He has high integrity and takes client service very seriously.
(review from Clarity.fm)

##### Jeremiah Smith

Founder, SimpleTiger

“Love Credo! Best lead source for quality SEO projects I've ever found!”

##### Wallaroo Media

Credo Agency Pro

Credo is amazing. Great service. Great founder there.

### The Solopreneur to Entrepreneur Transition

November 13, 2025 by John Doherty

I work directly with expert solopreneurs to help them make this shift, to build a small agency that supports their lifestyle and leaves them with plenty of profit and plenty of time to do what they love and experience whatever freedom means to them. Reach out to discuss what that looks like. Did you know \[…\]

### Rest At The End, Not In The Middle

December 21, 2024 by John Doherty

“Rest at the end, not in the middle.” This is a quote from the late Kobe Bryant, which has been my phone lock screen for months now.  Kobe was known for his relentlessness. He was at the gym before anyone else, so he could get in 3 workouts per day instead of the two his \[…\]

### More Work, Sooner – The Secret to Success

June 24, 2024 by John Doherty

There’s a concept that has served me well throughout my career that I’ve never been able to voice before until now. It’s the concept that doing more work than the next person, as fast as you can, is one of the cheat codes to inevitable success. It’s not for everyone, and if you don’t care \[…\]

### How To Use Pricing Strategically As A Growth Lever In Your Business

June 21, 2024 by John Doherty

Pricing. It’s one of the topics in the entrepreneurship/startup world that’s full of ideas and anecdotes like “raise your prices!” (which isn’t necessarily wrong most of the time) and “charge for value, not hourly.” This advice isn’t wrong, but it’s incomplete. Once you’ve implemented these, you’re making more money, but you’re also missing out on \[…\]

### Leaving It All On The Table

February 19, 2024 by John Doherty

I’ll be transparent with you – from about the end of 2021 to mid-2023, I dealt with pretty intense burnout.  Because of that, I did the work I needed to do to sustain my businesses, and even launched EditorNinja around the end of 2021, but I struggled to do even that. I survived the weeks. \[…\]

I’m going to break it down across work, personal, health, personal development, and travel. Work 2023 brought a big change for me. I shifted my focus from Credo, the business I started \[…\]

### If not now, when? (A reflection on anxiety and choice).

December 2, 2023 by John Doherty

My family moved into a new house in March 2023. With an expanding family and my wife and I both working from home, we needed more space.  Part of the change was going from 1 bathroom to 3. While this has been great for everyone, something I didn’t plan on was the immediately needed maintenance. \[…\]

### Maybe You Need To Do…More?

September 22, 2023 by John Doherty

I talk to a lot of business owners and in-house marketers. A common trope I hear is that they’re testing different marketing things, but they’re not sure which ones work. I have a theory that I’ve developed over time, as to why they’re not seeing more success. My friend, Peep Laja from Wynter and CXL, \[…\]

### Building A Business Is Like Growing A Plant

August 16, 2023 by John Doherty

Let me tell you about Fiona. Fiona is a philodendron that my wife acquired shortly after we moved to San Francisco and got married in 2014. For those three years, Fiona hung in the corner of our sun-filled San Francisco apartment. Then we moved to Colorado and Fiona hung in each of our living rooms \[…\]

### Are you still selling during the proposal process?

August 3, 2023 by John Doherty

Imagine you’re going somewhere to meet up with friends. You’ve plugged the location into Google Maps, you know what time you need to leave, and your friend is waiting for you to pick them up. You get in the car and turn on the ignition. An hour later, your friend calls you. “What’s up? Where \[…\]

### 3 Frameworks That Changed My Life

April 22, 2023 by John Doherty

Those of you who know me, know that I’m all about personal development. I work hard to improve myself, for my own good but also for the good of others. By working on myself, I’m a better husband, father, boss, friend, son, brother. In the last few years, starting with the pandemic where I wasn’t \[…\]

### 6 things entrepreneurs should do in an economic downturn

January 9, 2023 by John Doherty

On my personal podcast recently, I shared my take on “the upcoming recession” (spoiler: I don’t think we are in nor will we be in one, and if we do it will be markedly different than any past one and will only be purposeful, not because of an underlying instability AFAIK) and why I don’t \[…\]

### Short term solutions vs long term solutions

January 2, 2023 by John Doherty

I’m sick right now. I caught some sort of cough thing (not Covid) when I was in Virginia for the holidays, and it’s miserable. I’m throwing everything I can at it – Mucinex, Sudafed, zinc, vitamin C, water, tea, rest. And yet I’m still coughing hard. It is, as I said, miserable. Of course, this \[…\]

### “What if this was easy?”

August 23, 2022 by John Doherty

I often get caught in the trap of thinking that anything worth doing “should” be hard. It’s a perfectionist tendency that I’m trying to unlearn. Because of this tendency, I am prone to over-complicating things. I feel like I need to add a lot of steps to a process or features to a product before \[…\]
