## Help Launch the Revitalized PACEs Connection! Together, We Cleared Our Most Recent Hurdle – Now Let’s Build a Bright Future!
Dana Brown · 9/15/251:59 PM
Thanks to generous support from T he Parallel Foundation and individual donors, PACEs Connection has met its immediate October 1st platform funding need. That means our 62,000-member community remains online and accessible. But this is just the beginning as we head into the next phase of revitalization for almost 14-year-old social networking site. Over the past year, PACEs Connection leadership has been reimagining the role of the social networking platform in the trauma-informed movement.

## Big Feelings? How Kids (and Adults) Can Learn to Handle Them
Rachel E. Grant · 10/3/2510:24 AM
Do you ever notice that big feelings - like frustration, anxiety, or sadness - can feel overwhelming, confusing, or even unmanageable? This month, I want to share a wonderful resource that helps kids (and anyone young at heart) learn how to notice, name, and navigate their emotions in healthy ways. " Sometime I Get Stuck ", by Bursey Twin Stories. I have to admit - I really wish I’d had a book like this when I was a kid. Growing up, I faced my own trauma and intense emotions without the...

## New Study Finds Child Maltreatment Erodes Body Trust in Youth
Terry M. Petrenchik · 10/3/256:55 AM
A newly released study in Child Protection and Practice offers new insights on how early maltreatment shapes children's ability to recognize and trust their internal bodily sensations. The study Early maltreatment and interoceptive awareness in youth: Associations among age, sex and child sexual abuse examines youth ages 7–17 exposed to physical, sexual, and emotional abuse or neglect, many of whom were in foster or guardian care. Researchers measured interoceptive awareness, or the ability...

## Insights Into Suicide and Adverse Childhood Experiences
Dr. Glenn Schiraldi · 10/2/2511:30 AM
Self-destructive thoughts spawned by ACEs greatly increase risk for suicide attempts, while ACEs contribute to many other risk factors for suicide attempts. Learnable protective factors and early trauma interventions offer great hope for suicide prevention.

## Palisades Fire Peer Support Group now forming
Beth Quayle, MFT · 10/2/2510:09 AM
While time has passed since the fire, we know the emotional and psychological effects can persist far longer than the headlines. Grief, anxiety, loss, and uncertainty don't follow a timeline. I am facilitating a peer support group which offers a safe, understanding space to connect with others who have been impacted by the Palisades Fire. This is a free resource for our community, because healing happens together. Please call the number listed on the flyer for more information.

John Engel · 9/30/2512:17 PM
Timely and important study for human service leaders I have a few more openings to participate in a timely research project. I am working on a doctoral degree in change leadership, and my dissertation research focuses on the human service leaders' experience with psychological safety in racially diverse work teams. ## Why Couples With ACEs Bicker Over Small Things — And How to Move Toward Real Connection
Mina Todorova · 9/28/2511:19 PM
Why do some couples keep bickering over the smallest things? Often it isn’t about the surface issue at all. Partners with ACEs, histories of emotional neglect (CEN), or a fearful-avoidant attachment style may find that everyday stress triggers old protective patterns. This pillar article begins a three-part series on how early experiences shape reactivity, why minor disagreements can feel so charged, and how couples can move from bickering toward steadier understanding and real connection.

## School Shooter Prevention - Simple, Oft Frustrated, Humane Approach
Jeoffry Gordon · 9/28/256:25 AM
How 106 People Got Together to Stop a School Shooting — Before It Happened A threat on a school bus from an alienated young man united dozens of agencies to answer a single question: Is it possible to stop potential mass shooters before they commit a crime? By John Leland, NEW YORK TIMES, September 27, 2025 https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/27/nyregion/mass-shooting-prevention.html He was 16, bullied at school and living with his grandparents in a home stocked with firearms. ## Good Health Starts in the Kitchen for All Kids
Jeoffry Gordon · 9/25/258:41 AM
Ultra-processed food ban for California schools California may become the first state to ban ultra-processed foods (UPFs) from school meals. The “Real Food, Healthy Kids” Act (Assembly Bill 1264) has passed both houses and is waiting for Governor Newsom’s signature. This legislation would accomplish two important things: Establish the first statutory definition of ultra-processed foods in the nation. The lack of a common definition has been a major barrier to regulation. Prohibit schools...

New research shows the vital importance of positive childhood experiences in helping to create empathy in children. See " The influence of Adverse and Positive Childhood Experiences on facets of empathy ". We are eager to find, illuminate, and share as models or norms these positive childhood experiences! You could simply post a photograph of a community experience that is culturally appropriate and community led, with information about your resiliency or PACEs group, what it is you all...Read More...

Has anyone taken clips from any of the TIC documentaries and incorporated them into a presentation for older teens/young adults? And yes, it is great to be able to show a full documentary and then have a follow up discussion, but not always possible when you have just an hour slot. And another ask...does anyone have presentation materials for police depts? thank you.Read More...

I am doing a presentation on trauma to older high school students in an alternative program. Had thought about showing Paper Tigers with follow up conversation. I know there are other documentaries and perhaps even Ted Talks or YouTubes that would speak to their experiences. I am looking for suggestions. These students live in an urban setting that oftentimes reeks of toxic stress. Also, wold appreciate suggestions of icebreakers to use. The groups will be small, lending the conversation to...Read More...
