Every video game is influenced by those that came before it. The good ones just do a better job of combining those influences into something unique and interesting.

It’s why, after playing *Metal Eden* (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC), I feel confident in saying that the good people of Reikon Games who made this cyberpunk sci-fi first-person shooter have been playing shooters for a very long time…and are very good at their jobs.

As someone who loves science fiction, shooting games, the *Alien* franchise, and playing video games from a seated position, I must admit I was bummed when I heard there was going to be a new *Alien* first-person shooter / survival horror game called *Alien: Rogue Incursion*…but that it was a VR game.

But I’m thinking I may not have been alone in that, because the good people at Survios, the VR game studio that made *Alien: Rogue Incursion*, have now released a VR-free version called *Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One Evolved Edition* for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

And trust me, this one is no bummer.

Though its origin is disputed, there is a saying, oft contributed to Confucius, which suggests that if you seek revenge, you should dig two graves: one for the person on whom you inflict your vengeance, and one for you.

But in the epic and engaging third-person, open world, hack & slash action / adventure game *Ghost Of Yōtei* (PlayStation 5) — the spiritual sequel to 2020’s *Ghost Of Tsushima* — you’re going to need to do a lot more digging. Good thing this is as exciting and engaging as its forefather.

Last year, when Survios released the VR shooter *Alien: Rogue Incursion* for Meta Quest 3, PlayStation VR 2, and PC, fans of the extended sci-fi franchise were excited to see two familiar names: Zulu Hendricks, a fan favorite character who’s appeared in multiple comic books and novels; and Alex White, the author of two much loved *Alien* novels: *Alien: The Cold Forge* and *Alien: Into Charybdis*.

With *Alien: Rogue Incursion* shedding its virtual reality aspects to become a first-person shooter called *Alien: Rogue Incursion: Part One: Evolved Edition* (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC), I spoke to Alex via email about their role in writing the original game.
